South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an acute hospital Trust serving the patients of Teesside and North Yorkshire. The Clinical Measurement Section, part of the Medical Physics Department at South Tees, comprises of a team of Clinical Scientists, Technologists and assistants who use their expertise and skills to provide high quality scientific and technical support to a variety of teams throughout the Trust.
Within the innovation pathway, the Clinical Measurement Section we are primarily involved with the development and prototyping of devices and software. Utilising skills and experience in mechanical and software engineering, the team can design, build and test a variety of different devices for use clinically, in research projects and to demonstrate brand new innovative ideas to commercial partners, universities and patient and public groups. We can also advise on the regulations surrounding the development of medical devices and software. Much of this work happens within our dedicated Engineering workshop located in Medical Physics at The James Cook University Hospital.
Additionally, the innovation group, along with one of our colleagues in Orthopaedics, has a constantly evolving digital skills lab that is currently focussed on 3D printing and VR/AR.
We have access to Clinical Expertise throughout the hospital in a number of specialties and departments with knowledgeable and experienced staff and we are a research active Trust.
The innovation team within South Tees is focussed on developing great ideas for the benefit of patients, staff and the wider healthcare system.
