Celebrating the first nine months of the Pledge and exploring devolution at our last event

In December, Pledgees came together for a Christmas event. Our final event of 2023 celebrated the success of the HLS Pledge since its launch in March. The event was also an opportunity to collaborate and learn about the North East devolution deal and the opportunities this presents for the health and life sciences infrastructure. Thank you to everyone who attended and to our speakers.

Jody Nichols, Associate Director at Health Innovation North East North Cumbria (HI NENC), said: “I’m so proud of the first nine months of achievements for the NENC Health and Life Sciences Pledge, with over 130 pledgees and regular events and the latest event focusing on devolution. We had some amazing speakers from North of Tyne Combined Authority, NHSA, Invest NE and the NE LEP. Very much looking forward to the next event on the 7th of March, focusing on grant funding.”

Gateshead Health joins the HLS Pledge and represents the North East at FemTech

We are delighted to welcome Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, who joined the Pledge in December. The Trust has been clear in their strategic intent of becoming the Northern Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health building on the excellent work of their clinical teams including the regional Gynae-oncology service, regional screening services (including breast, cervical and colposcopy), IVF, osteoporosis and the work of many other acute and community teams.

This ambition aligns with the Women’s Health Strategy for England and the recent £250,000 investment to develop women’s health hubs in Gateshead, which will help to develop one-stop-shop services in GP practices, pharmacies, pop-up sites and community venues, with the aim of making Gateshead a centre of excellence for women’s health.

The Trust’s strategy aims to work with partners to raise awareness of women’s health issues and improve access and outcomes for women and girls.

Through attending and networking at one of our Pledge events, Gateshead Health represented the North East at a recent Accelerating FemTech event held in London. FemTech, short for female technology, is a rapidly growing sector in healthcare that focuses on using technology to support women’s health.
